My mother was born in Mikoko Okiyama Japan. The schooling in Japan is quite different, she selected "ikebana", the art of flower arranging. Upon completing high school, she continued her ikebana studies at the Shogetsu School of Design in 1960, there she earned her teaching credentials.
While in the Navy my dad, Don Hauser met my mom and married. As a young child I was amazed in the way my mother could create floral arrangements, this sparked an interest in me. While in Japan we lived off base. One of our neighboros, Mr. Hisashi Ohba had a graden of Bonsai. My dad and I would talk with him and admire his work. Mr. Ohba invited my dad to try Bonsai and that was the beginning.
Two years later we were transfered to Okinawa. There my father met Mr. Junuchi Muranaka, also a neighbor and Bonsai enthusiest. My family and I spent two years in Okinawa, learning and gaining experiencne from our neighbor. Then we moved to the states, I continued studying Bonsai and trying to improve techniques.
Today, I am married and have two beautiful children, My wife and I still enjoy working and learining about Bonsai. We would like to share our families years of experience with the public and Bonsai enthusiests of all kinds. We share our families knowledge in Bonsai through this unique hands on school. It has taken years of research and planning to present this kind of workshop environment. We hope that you will enjoy your experience at Okiyama.
